To start this assignment the first thing we did was sketch out some ideas. I decided on a fridge holding ingredients with my name on, one with the little candy hearts you get on Valentine's day with my name embedded on them, my name written out of lipstick so my name has a lipstick smudge texture/look. The last one, the one I went with, was just a font that I came up with. Unless it's already on the web, but I really liked it.
After we finished the 4 ideas we had a conference with Mr. K to select the best design. As I said earlier, I chose the made-up font. This one I was playing around with, I tried to make it 3-D for some reason, which backfired and failed. I also tried to find a background, so I tried using watercolor, but I really just couldn't get the hang of it. The actual good part of the watercolor was just my friend trying to teach me how it worked. I kept using too much water which caused little water.... maggot thingies...? I don't know. Water paper shreds. Or something. I like saying maggot thingies because it sounds cooler. LOL.
Next we spent a few lessons learning techniques using different art media. The color pencil name circle was going well until I messed up the background. Trust me, it looked worse in real life. The paint was going well too until I got carried away and screwed up the letter. Again, it looks worse in real life. On picture, I actually like how it looks. With the watercolor, you can see my lack of skill right away. My original planned design was nice to begin with, but I kept making mistakes and I had a lot of the water maggot thingies, so I just covered everything in black and did whatever. For the oil pastel, things REALLY went wrong. The colors all got mushy, the letter looked like unicorn poop, and when the purple mixed with the yellow, it caused an ugly turd color.
Here is my final, finished name project! As you can see, I changed a bit on the font idea, changing the color and removing the dot - thingies. I also needed a background, but I wasn't good at watercolor, plus oil pastel and color pencil would take like FOREVER. So that left paint. I wanted add a little... um ... PEW ... I don't know, coolness to my project, though. So instead of just coloring the entire page blue or something, I added classy black stripes to match the the white background. I touched it up with white to cover my mistakes, but it made it look worse, so I was like, 'I'm happy with it, I could improve it but I am fine with it right now, if I keep working I'm just going to like RUIN it.' I left it, and that is my finished project.
The best part of this project, for me, was coming up with the four ideas. I didn't have to stick with everything, I could just let my creativity flow.
The most challenging part was trying to clean up my mistakes! I had black stripes, but I painted outside the lines, so I touched it up with white. When I touched it up, the white clashed into the stripes! So then I had to touch up on the black, which got on the white, and then I touched up the white again, and so on.
